• 3 At-Home Tricks for Protecting Your Hardwood Floors

What can you do at home to keep your hardwood floors gorgeous?

Hardwood floors are one of the best investments for your home. Many people find them to be attractive and comfortable. Some good wood floor polish and a couple of well-placed rugs can transform your home into a haven from the real world. But over the years, wood floors can start to look drab and worn. Here are our three favorite at-home tricks for protecting your hardwood floors:

    1. Leave your shoes at the door. The grit and grime you track in from outside are all on the soles of your shoes. Every time someone steps on that dirt, it's ground into the floor and cuts little scars into the wood finish. And high heels? These small heels can leave permanent damage on the floor with every step. If everyone takes off their shoes at the door, you will notice an instant reduction in the dirt and damage on your floors.
    2. Put felt or rubber pads under your furniture. These products will protect your wood floors from damage due to furniture sliding around. Use rubber pads for furniture you want to stay in one place: couches, armchairs, or the dining room table. Stick felt pads on furniture you may want to move around: ottomans, dining room chairs, or rocking chairs. You can buy both for cheap at any hardware or big box store.
    3. Keep your pets’ nails trimmed. Overgrown dog claws can lead to large gashes in your wood finish. A quick trip to the groomer each month can keep your floors looking flawless for years to come.
