• How to Get Wax, Play-Dough, and Other Unusual Spills Out of Your Carpet

Oh the stains! Here’s what to do to get them out of your carpet.

Do you have kids? If you do, then you are no stranger to finding strange stuff in your carpet.

    Play-dough? Yup.
    Waxy crayons? Sure.
    Unidentifiable food? Probably.

So what does a good parent do to keep the kids and their carpet relatively stain-free? Here are some ways to get unusual spills out of your carpet.

    Clean unusual spills on carpet
    Wax On, Wax Off

Wax in your carpet is a doozy. Pre-kids, it might have come from something as innocent as a candle, but now it’s probably a little more brightly colored coming from a crayon. The number one tip about colored wax on your carpet is: do not iron it! If you search online, some of the advice will say to get out your iron and some newspaper, but please don’t do that. If the iron is even remotely too hot, it will scorch the fibers of the carpet and will make that lovely shade of whatever color all but permanent. Call a professional carpet cleaner to get the wax, and the color, out of the carpet.

Play-Dough, Clay, Magic Molding Stuff, and More

There are so many different types of moldable stuff out there these days, and even with the best intentions and directions, kids still end up rubbing it on the carpet. If left untreated it will get ground in, rubbed in, and set in. Don’t wash it with hot water. This would make the compounds soften and become pushed further into your carpet fibers. Instead, let it dry completely and then use a stiff brush to get it out. If it doesn’t come out completely, a professional can treat the carpet and clean it thoroughly to extract the remaining residue.

Unidentifiable Food and Other Gross Things

We love them, of course, but kids can be gross sometimes, and the stuff they leave behind can be even grosser. If you find some sort of food or other gross stuff on your carpet and you don’t know what it is, it can be hard to know how to treat it. Try vinegar and water or spray-on carpet stain remover. If that doesn’t work, a professional carpet cleaner has the know-how and setup to treat and remove almost any gross thing you find in your carpet.
