Don’t carve those pumpkins over your beautiful floor until you read this!

It’s fall and time for pumpkin spice and everything nice, including carving up some Jack ‘O Lanterns. If you have beautiful hardwood floors and you cringe every year when a knife hovers over the thick, orange skin of those seasonal wonders, you’ve come to the right place. Here are 3 tips for protecting your floors, without giving up pumpkin carving:

    Tip #1: Clean, Clean, Clean!

The best way to protect your floors, no matter the season, is to keep them clean. Regular professional cleaning followed by general maintenance and care will keep them in great shape. When there aren’t scratches or buildup between your pumpkin and your floor, you’re already ahead of the game.

    Tip #2: Protect, Protect, Protect!

If you have kids or young adults wielding sharp tools to get just the design carved into their pumpkins, it’s a great idea to lay down a sheet, blanket, some towels, or even newspaper to protect your floors. Not only will that help keep a blade from the surface of your wood or tile, but it will help keep the gloppy pumpkin guts out of the cracks and grout.

    Tip #3: Clean Again!

Pumpkins, while not naturally acidic, can do some damage if it gets stuck to your floor, especially those stringy, slimy parts. Make sure you clean your floors after the pumpkins have been carved and moved to the porch to make sure you don’t have any remnants left behind.

Pumpkins are a fall tradition, but that doesn’t mean you have to put up with pumpkin guts and battle wounds on your hardwood floors. Protect it and you’ll save yourself a headache. And while you’re at it, prep your house for the rest of the holidays in the upcoming months by scheduling professional floor cleaning with the pros at Whitehall Carpet Cleaners today.
